Ara Costas has it all - riches, power, and the kind of beauty that attracts all the right people. He's flying high and loves his life, until a serious car accident leaves him horribly scarred. Ara becomes an angry recluse, hiding away in his Chicago high-rise apartment, running his multimillion-dollar business from behind a computer screen.
Ilias Adams is a quiet farm boy who keeps his nose buried in books. A great education and stellar resume land him a job as Ara's assistant and liaison to the board of directors. Little did he know when he signed up for this dream job that he'd end up working for the world's moodiest, most uptight boss.
Ilias is scared of Ara at times, but he recognizes the challenge he faces when he meets Ara and sees the reason for the man's anger. Ara is guarded and suspicious, since he can't believe anyone can bear to look at him. Despite all this, Ilias is determined to turn the beast into a beauty again, at least on the inside, and tear down the walls Ara has so carefully constructed around him.< /p>

I just finished this book, and it was absolutely amazing by the depth and feeling envoked by this new to me author. It was raw and powerful, and really sucked you into the story. I laughed and cried along with the MCs in this novel. Ara is the type of character you love to hate, but his growth and depth made me love to love him by the end. In the beginning he is vain and superficial, and his beauty really is only skin deep. He treats everyone like they are beneath him, especially his best friend Beni. The one person who had stood by him, and loved him. An auto accident robs him of his outward beauty, or at least that is what he believes, leaving him scarred and emotionally closed off. He's turned himself into a recluse, not wanting to even chance enduring the types of stares from strangers that he bestowed upon others when he was beautiful. Enter Ilias...smart, funny, sexy, compassionate Ilias. He challenges Ara on every level, and puts up with a heap of crap as Ara takes his frustrations out on him, but he doesn't give up. Slowly he worms his way through the barriers Ara has constructed to protect himself, showing Ara through actions and words that he believes Ara is beautiful inside and out. The love that forms between these two men was almost tangible in it's intensity. You could literally feel it as it progressed throughout the book. The book was exceptionally well written, and I will definitely be looking for more from this author. Thank you for a wonderful read.Product details

Beast (Audible Audio Edition) Allison Cassatta Tracey Michael KC Kelly Dreamspinner Press LLC Books Reviews
If you're in the mood for romance, this is a must-read. Allison and Tracey have fashioned a gorgeous modern re-telling of Beauty & the Beast as a gay romance that tugs at your heartstrings and has you rooting for that inevitable HEA. Ara is the dark, brooding "beast" who's been disfigured by an accident. Illias is the kind, compassionate "beauty" who brings light and hope back into Ara's life, and shows him for the first time what it means to love. I can't say enough good things about this book. Read it and you will fall in love just like I did . I promise. -)
To me this was several stories at once. The country boy meets the city boy. Rich boy meets poor. Ex Beauty/beast meets beauty. Ara journey was a tough one but exactly what he needed to find true happiness. Ilias is a gem, he loves Ara with his whole being even though he has been hurt. The romance is everywhere from the setting, who doesn't want to live in a mansion in Chicago and have a sweet housekeeper who brings you finger foods whilst you are in bed, to a ranch in the country. Real life challenges are addressed yet true love wins in the end. Thank you Allison for another fabulous tale.
I loved this book!! I was drawn in right away and could not put the book down. I have to admit that Ara sort of pissed me off for most of the book. I love when a writer can have the reader feeling such strong emotions for the characters in the book. It was very well written and I highly recommend it and all of Allison’s books!!
I rarely give out 5 stars, but in my humble opinion, this story tugged at my heart strings and had me engrossed from page one! What a twist on the usual gay love story! Ms. Cassatta did a wonderful job on making her characters life like, believable and completely human in their needs and desires. I completely enjoyed this book and I will be looking into other books by this Author. An avid reader in Rock Tavern, NY
Ara is scarred after an accident, he used to be the belle of the ball and Prince Grouchy all rolled into one. Now he is just a reclusive grouchy beast who, for seven years, has been locked away in his luxurious apartment with staff running his empire. The rule for his assistant is no staring and no superfluous interaction and just focus on work. Others were caught staring so they were ejected from the ivory tower to the gutters below. In comes Ilias who desperately needs the job so will do all he can to stay.
Except he doesn't he stares, he tries to make friends, he remonstrates Ara, he has little tanties and he does everything to get himself fired. Ara doesn't fire him though...he falls in lust and then love.
Hang on though, for seven years Ara has sat in shadows, not allowing anyone to look upon him and suddenly he is letting this young man break all the rules and Ara miraculously lets down the castle walls into his heart. Nuh uh, don't think so. Honest to goodness this was a long, slow, tortuous read of epic proportions. I was ready to delete it from my at 25%, but just kept sludging along trying to get through this book. There were some nice bits sure but on the whole talk about artistic licence. I don't think either character is that likable, the poor housekeeper is being worked to death as well (just thought I would point out she worked every day from at least 6 in the morning to late meals, poor woman) and quite frankly Ilias is like a child if he is rebuffed. I felt depressed reading this and only finished it because my curiosity on how it ended made me. I need a cup of tea and a lie down after that epic yawn - felt too much like hard work getting through that! Oh and just to add my last wee peeve - the names Ara and Ilias are just too contrived for words - one is ok, but both having weird names is overkill.
It was interesting, for the most part. I didnt like how the characters developed, however. The "beast" was just awkwardly put together, and the "beauty" was even more awkwardly put. He was supposed to do actual work, but the only thing he ever did was read his kindle, and when asked for work that he was supposedly assigned, he magically had it ready... it just wasnt believable. At all. I realize it was fiction, but it would be nicer if I was able to be sucked into the story like it wasnt. Idk. An ok read. I didnt even finish it, to be honest. It was ok, that's really all I can say about it.
